How Does Therapeutic Massage Benefit Me?

Therapeutic massage is necessary when you are in pain or have a complaint regarding muscle function. Stress, injury, poor circulation, overuse, and misuse can cause pain and discomfort as well as restrict your normal range of movement. If left unattended, these conditions can cause overcompensation and strain on healthy muscle tissue and can seriously affect your quality of life.

Massage therapy stretches and loosens tight muscles and connective tissue. This breaks down adhesions and frees your range of motion. Massage therapy also activates nerve receptor signals along nerve fibers to temporarily block chronic pain signals from reaching the brain. In addition, massage releases endorphins, the body’s natural painkiller, into the brain and nervous system to reduce the feeling of pain without pharmaceuticals.

Every session includes stretching the involved areas for optimal range of motion. Ease and freedom of movement equals a pain free life.

What is Neuromuscular therapy?

Neuromuscular therapy (NMT) is a type of massage therapy that targets trigger points, which are areas of hyperirritability in muscle tissue that can cause pain, weakness, and dysfunction. NMT aims to restore proper function to muscles by addressing the underlying causes of muscle dysfunction.

Here are some ways in which NMT can help muscle dysfunction:

  • Reducing trigger points: NMT uses manual pressure to reduce trigger points and release muscle tension. This can help alleviate pain and improve muscle function.

  • Restoring proper muscle length: NMT can help restore proper muscle length by releasing tight muscles and fascia. This can improve range of motion and reduce pain.

  • Improving circulation: NMT can also improve circulation to the affected area, which can promote healing by delivering oxygen and nutrients to the damaged tissues.

  • Re-educating the nervous system: NMT can help re-educate the nervous system to improve muscle function. By applying pressure to specific areas, NMT can help activate and strengthen weak or underused muscles, improving overall muscle balance.

  • Addressing postural imbalances: NMT can help address postural imbalances that contribute to muscle dysfunction. By releasing tight muscles and fascia and strengthening weak muscles, NMT can improve posture and reduce the risk of further injury.

How Does Massage Help Reduce the Effects of Stress?

Massage therapy has an amazing effect on your body’s nervous system. When massage activates your parasympathetic nervous system, it counteracts your body’s negative response to stress, relaxing muscle tension and allowing your heart rate, blood pressure, and circulation to return to normal.

Stress becomes negative and harmful when the challenges of our life become constant and unrelenting. This imbalance of the body, mind, and soul can lead to physical manifestations including headaches, backaches, high blood pressure, anxiety, depression, gastrointestinal problems, sleep disorders, ulcers, muscular tension, and exhaustion, both mental and physical. If left unchecked, these symptoms can take their toll on our health and lead to chronic diseases. Massage can help with all these conditions by releasing tight, tender soft tissue and restoring proper mobility.
